YoungWonks SPER is our first level computer science class for kids and teens between the ages of 9 and 18. YoungWonks SPER is a Python Programming class in which children use Scratch in the first few hours to understand the basic Computer Science fundamentals (sequencing, looping, branching and variables) and then spend around 8 to 10 sessions (90 minutes each) learning Python (Functional Programming). The later sessions of the program are spent completing a Raspberry Pi projects using the Python and electronics knowledge gained in prior sessions. Completion of such projects gives kids a lot of confidence and sense of accomplishment.
Curriculum is designed from ground up keeping interests of kids in mind (games, robotics, etc) at the same time has college level conceptual depth. We at YoungWonks incorporate Coding, Electronics and Making in programs to make learning purposeful, meaningful and interesting. This kind of learning is very deep and sticky.
The program is hands on and self paced. Children are encouraged to build strong understanding of the concepts and then come up with their unique innovative solutions.
We teach in small groups with 4:1 student teacher ratio. Typical completion time for first level is 14 weeks.
This program not only teaches coding and electronics but also fosters creativity, reasoning and problem solving.
YoungWonks is a pioneer in personalized learning and our classes are attended by children from all over the Bay Area. Due to our unique teaching quality, depth of curriculum and non traditional teaching approach our programs are trusted for their children by leading Computer Engineers at almost all major technology companies. Some of our students travel more than 40 miles each way to attend a weekly class.
