Principles of Drama Therapy: Workshop 3

Students and professionals in educational, clinical and community settings will gain valuable skills and techniques to promote growth, insight and wellness through creativity and the tools of drama therapy. Attendees can choose to join one, two or all three weekends. Likewise there are not pre-requisits for any of the classes, so if you miss one, you can still join for any of the others. Each module will discuss both theory and practice, including experiential exercises and information about structuring sessions, adapting to various populations, ethical considerations and techniques for warm-up and closure.  For CEUs: The use of drama therapy in counseling and clinical practice will be explored. For people pursuing alternative training toward the Registered Drama Therapist (RDT) credential, this course (all three workshops) will count toward the Principles of Drama Therapy requirement. For questions about alternative training, contact *Class, materials, credits, and lunches included in the cost. Participants will receive a certificate of attendance and course objectives to submit to their own licensing board for continuing education credits.


Workshop 3:

  • Role Theory & Role Method

  • Performance-based approaches

  • Additional experiential techniques

Nadya Trytan, MA, RDT-BCT is a Drama Therapist in private practice in Minneapolis, MN, where she provides services to mental health clients and drama therapy training to professionals. She is also on staff with United Hospital Mental Health Department where she specializes in geriatric mental health, in addition to working with adolescent and adult inpatient and outpatient clients.   • Brief history of the use of drama therapy and the use of therapeutic theater

  • Five Phase Model of drama therapy

  • Projective Methods including masks, puppets and transitional objects
