Mankato-based writer Erin Dorney will share a selection of ekphrastic poetry written during her 2017 residency at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. Ekphrasis (pronounced ek-fra-siz) is a literary description of, or commentary on, a visual work of art.
Attendees will then be guided through a brief ekphrastic writing exercise in the 410 Project gallery. The event marks the launch of an instructional zine available free of charge to art galleries, community spaces, museums, libraries, and other organizations who wish to introduce this activity to their patrons and visitors, allowing them deeper interaction with art of any style or school. Complimentary copies of the zine will be available.
Please join us for a fun night of poetry & writing about art!
Erin Dorney is a co-founder of FEAR NO LIT and an intern with VIDA: Women in Literary Arts. Her writing has appeared in Juked, Bone Bouquet, Day One, Birdfeast, Paper Darts, The Pinch, Painted Bride Quarterly, and Hobart, among other publications. She has led ekphrastic writing workshops at the Arts Center of St. Peter since 2016.
This activity is made possible by an Artist Grant from the Prairie Lakes Regional Arts Council with funds provided by the McKnight Foundation.
