Fall 2019 – Alla Prima Paint-Off
ALLA PRIMA PAINT-OFF
Ingrid. V. Wells
10 Sessions>> Wednesdays, October 9- December 11
6:00-9:00pm, FMC Studio 26, $480
Finishing a painting all in one sitting is a rite of passage for oil painters; this exciting, wet into wet mode of working is fast-paced and full of curiosities. In this intermediate to advanced painting course you will develop a whole new body of work by painting one oil painting each class session. Both your portfolio and painting skills will grow rapidly with this type of extensive practice. You will learn to make painting decisions quickly, becoming more versatile and technically adept in your work. You will develop skills in drawing with oil paint. Class discussions and group critiques will also help to advance your painting practice.
Ingrid V. Wells has been painting in oil for a decade. Having shown internationally at the CICA Museum in Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, Wells earned her MFA in Painting from San Francisco Art Institute. Her work fancies the fantastic and humorous in theme and the charming, the kitschy, and the celebrity in subject. Wells’s paintings investigate the world of gendered consumerism and the ethics of fascination. Her work was recently awarded “Curator’s Pick” in the Made in California exhibition at the Brea Gallery. Wells’s paintings have been featured in The Huffington Post, Daily Mail, BUST Magazine, Creative Boom, W Magazine, GirlTalk HQ, Create! Magazine, and Teen Vogue, among others. Wells currently lives and works in San Francisco.
PLEASE NOTE: Public Education courses are held contingent on a minimum enrollment, which is determined two business days prior to a class start date. Public Education Staff will contact you ONLY if there is a course cancellation or change.
What materials (if any) will I need to bring to class?
Each course requires specific materials that we ask you bring to your first class session so you can get started making right away. Materials lists are available approximately two weeks prior to the course start date. Visit the SFAI website here, click on your course title, and then click on the blue "Materials List" link underneath the course dates. If you have any questions regarding materials, please contact Public Education Staff.
What are my transport/parking options getting to San Francisco Art Institute?
All classes, unless otherwise noted, meet at 800 Chestnut Street, between Jones and Leavenworth. You can find directions to campus on the SFAI website.
SFAI is located in a residential neighborhood, and free two-hour parking is available on all of the streets immediately surrounding the school. The two-hour restriction cuts off at 9 pm, so evening Public Education students do not need to move their car, unless you arrive prior to 7 pm.
SFAI is easily accessible via public transportation, with Muni bus lines #30 Stockton, #45 Union, and #47 Van Ness located within a few blocks of campus.
Where can I contact the organizer with any questions?
