Breathing Exercises and Pulmonary Drainage Techniques

Speaker: Henry Lozano, PT, DPT
Henry is the Director of Rehabilitation at Capital View Transitional Care Center, a 32-bed TCU/Sub-Acute Care Unit located within Regions Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota. Henry graduated from Montclair State University in 1988 with a Bachelor in Chemistry and Biology; New York University Physical Therapy program in 1992. He obtained his Doctor of Physical Therapy advanced degree from Boston University in 2006. Henry has been an Associate Faculty at the University of Minnesota’s Doctor of Physical Therapy Program since 1998 teaching Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation. He has presented seminars on several topics including: Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation, Stroke Rehabilitation, and Rehabilitation Management, in various states since 1999. Henry is a dynamic speaker who brings current treatment strategies that are evidence based and patient management ideas that you can use in your practice tomorrow.
Bring your stethoscopes and dress for a short lab where you will practice lung auscultation, and seated postural drainage techniques that will have a high impact on your pulmonary patients. We will discuss the importance, goals and technique of breathing exercises, auscultation and effective coughing. You will have a chance to practice and leave with an increased comfort level and another helpful method of treating your pulmonary compromised patient.
At the conclusion of the workshop, participants will be able to:
•Be comfortable using a stethoscope
•Be comfortable with auscultating the lungs anteriorly and posteriorly
•Be able to identify normal and abnormal lung sounds
•Be able to instruct a patient on breathing exercises
•Be able to perform simple chest physical therapy or pulmonary hygiene
•Be able to perform effective cough techniques
•Be able to perform thoracic mobilization
•Know the precautions for pulmonary hygiene, coughing and chest mobilization
5:15-6:00pm Anatomy review/Thoracic mobilization
6:15-6:45pm Lung auscultation and lung sounds- Lab
6:45-7:15pm Breathing exercises- Lab
7:15-7:45pm Pulmonary Hygiene- Lab
7:45-8:00pm Coughing techniques- Lab
Non-employee/Centrex On-call Therapist Cancellation policy:
Cancellations received at least five or more working days before the event are refundable, minus a $20 administrative charge per registrant. There is no refund for cancellations received less than five working days before the start of course. A refund or voucher will be issued to any participant who is registered to attend a seminar that is cancelled by Centrex Rehab.
Centrex Employee Cancellation Policy:
Centrex requires a one month cancellation notice from the registered employee.
- Centrex will allow one emergency cancellation per employee every 2 years without penalty (i.e. you or family member is sick, car died, etc.)
- Any no show or cancellation without proper notice and beyond the one allowed emergency cancellation will be subject to a $50 cancellation fee.
You do not need to bring a ticket to the course with you.
